5th Gen or 5.5 Gen?

How can you tell the difference between a 5th Gen or a 5.5 Gen? Is there a real difference?

HP Media Center PC m7360n, Windows XP Pro, 30GB Video iPod , Microsoft Office Pro 2003

If you bought your iPod after September 2006 and if you bought it new, it should be a 5.5G.

The differences are in battery life and screen brightness.

Well, I bought it Summer of 2007, was just wondering if there was some place ot check and find that information out.

One easy way to check is look under Music and see if there is a Search function listed. Original 5th gen ipod lack the search functions (and it was never added via firmware updates). 5.5 Gen models have the Search function.

This may sound really stupid but the 5G box has an U2 video and the 5.5G box has The Pirates Of Caribbean. In iPod is everything equal since they use the same firmware.

I'm not sure where that video was, unless I deleted it when I did a sync when I bought it. Thanks for that info though.

When I said in the box it was really an image in the box, not a video in iPod, but I didn't know that 5G didn't have the search feature.

Well, being the pack rat that I am, I looked and I still have the original box, with the sales receipt, etc. and it shows a picture of Pirates. What an interesting observation!
