I can't sync music to my ipod

Perhaps you could be a bit more specific on what is not working.
Any error messages?

I am having the same issue. I connect my iPod shuffle to my machine, and it pops up in iTunes. But when I go to add music to the iPod, or try to manually Sync it, it comes back with the following error:

"The iPod "Cassandra's iPod" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found."

Now, I installed a fresh copy of iTunes 7.5 before getting my iPod. I'm running Windows XP Pro. When the iPod was first hooked up to my machine, the auto detect and installation process said there were issues, but it completed the process anyway.

I would appreciate resolving this issue as well. I have spent far too much time trying to get my music from Itunes into my IPOD. I may just shuffle it back to the store if not the the garbage can.

I am using a Windows XP Pro operating system - have reinstalled 3 times.

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache. You'll need to search for it on your computer.

I have just received a new ipod shuffle as a gift and I too am getting the same error message 'The ipod can not be synced. The required disk can not be found'. I have tried to reset the ipod and got an error message 'The ipod cannot be reset. Unknown error 1418'. I tried phoning the help centre and they are closed! I have the newest version of itunes & I have updated my windows settings. What else can I do?! Any suggestions gratefully received! If I can get through to the help desk tomorrow by phone (hopefully they'll be there on a Monday!) I shall post their advice here if it works.

My problem's solved! Apple are sending me out a new shuffle & labels to return the one that's not working. If you are still getting the error message saying that the disk cannot be synced phone the support centre ASAP if it's a new ipod as you only have 14 days to get a replacement. Hope this helps some of you with a new shuffle.

I'm having exactly the same problem. Brand new ipod unit can't syn up anything with the unit because disk can't be found. Have gone through basic (first level) diag. without success. 4 hours invested in this effort. Question the value of this entire technology. It should not be this difficult. I expect Apple has a real problem.

Also, which port are you connecting the Shuffle to?

This solution (_ http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996_) worked perfectly for my problem. The Ipod device was not staying connected because of an error in the device driver install. Because of that the error message "file not found" when you tried to sync up the Ipod.

good luck with that. I'm on my third new Shuffle and it's still givimg me the same error message. It's gotta be a conflict between the shuffle and the windows OS.

I'm having the same problem. My ipod will not sync because the disk drive can't be found. This is all new to me. Please help!!!

Im having the same problem. is it supposed to be switched in the on position or something. Already did the "appleipod.bat" thing but still not working.
