Can US version iPhone can work with Orange in France? Does anyone know?

Hi Everybody.
I bought my iphone when it came out. I had to come living in France, and now I have my iPhone with me here. Since yesterday, we can use iPhone with Orange, officially (here in France). Can I use my US iPhone with Orange by just changing the sim card? Does iTunes will recognize this orange sim card since the phone was made originally for AT&T, or does it have to be unlocked? Which I don' t want to do.
Thanks guys

iphone, Mac OS X (10.4.11), iphone

That ***** guys. I have a $400 iPhone in my possession and I can't use it in a different country. France has a provider, it should work with it. I don't either want to unlock it. Well I'm going to through my phone away and I won't never buy an Apple product again! There's no store here and so I can't ask anything, there is NO phone customer service where I could call. I would not mind to exchange the phone, since I never use it.
