Just got a 160GB iPod classic to go with my Sonic Impact V55 with the primary intention of using the combination to play movies for my kids in the car on driving trips. I did some research and found that the classic works with the V55 with a slight workaround, so I made the investment. Problem is that when I fired up iTunes yesterday upon receiving the new iPod, one of the first things it wanted to do was update the software. No problem, I thought, and went ahead and let it update to 1.0.3. !^%@#%^$!!!! It seems the 1.0.3 update broke something so that it won't work with the V55!
Is there any way, legit or hackish, to go back to v1.0.2? The big, big lie in iTunes about restoring it to original factory settings is just that: an out and out lie. Restore brings it to the newest version, not the factory setup. If I can't use this with the V55, I've just dumped hundreds of dollars down the drain.
Thanks in advance for any advice....

I can relate to your fustration. I'm going through the same issue. I never had any problems with the earlier 80gig model. I had to replace it, since it was stolen. I finaly saved up for it. I was very happy at first. I had bought may items for it. One of them was an ipod DJ mixer. I can't use it like before, after i downloaded the new software. I just found out about this forum. I wished i had read all these coments before, so I wouldn't have downloaded the new 1.0.3. I hope they resolve the issue.
Remove the latest update from the iTunes/iPod updates folder.
On a Mac this is found in (name of)user/library/iTunes/iPod software updates.
Then prevent iTunes from checking the internet for a new update (preferences/general and remove the check mark from "check for updates automatically), then click restore.
You should then be asked if you want to use the previous version of the iPod software.
Just tried that, but unfortunately there's no previous version present for it to use so my only restore option is the 1.0.3 download. (Just got the iPod a couple days ago so never had the opportunity to download the 1.0.2 update back when it was released.) If there was some way for me to get the files for the 1.0.2 update I'm sure that would go a long way toward solving my problem (
cough someone could email it to me at brossow-AT-gmail.com
cough).
Hi - please let me know if you manage to find to 1.0.2 iPod software. My 80GB Classic no longer syncs properly since i installed the 1.0.3 update 'grrr'. One would think that the keep an archive of the previous version somewhere...
I could have sworn I saw a thread on www.ilounge.com about a download site that kept ALL of the iPod firmware versions for all iPods/iPhone/iTouch available for download. They were even giving one guy instructions on how to easily install the firmware for both MAC and PC.
