iTunes Setup Assistant

SON OF A ..... this is so annoying that i'm about to take a huge butcher's nife and stab the computer...
i've bought an iPod Classic, cool, it's working, but i had to update iTunes.. and that's when my patience vaporized. every time i try to use iTunes, there's this annoying screen with "iTunes Setup Assistant", buttons "next" and "cancel" and the whole screen freezes. no matter what i do, the "assistant" freezes.
i tried to repair and reinstall iTunes 7.5, i tried to install older versions, but they cannot use already modified library...
please, help me save my computer otherwise i will have to shoot it... does anybody have any ideas how to fix it?
thank u in advance for any advices, and excuse my emotions, but this whole thing drives me up to the wall... 😉

I seem to be having the same exact issue described above and have found no resolution yet. I see itunes.exe in the processlist and it doesn't seem to be using any CPU and isn't busy or anything. The screen just sits there and I can't close, hit next or cancel. Apple or anyone else...suggestions please?

Running XP Media Center SP2
