How do I print "and Family" on address labels for Holiday cards?

Question

How do I print "and Family" on address labels for Holiday cards?

I have a holiday list and when I try to set it up to print labels, I would like to be able to add Family on the labels so it appears to go to everyone in the family.
I don't want to change the "card" to include & family because it affects all emails etc. I just want to do it for these labels. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For just the labels, you can add a field called the related names field. Here are the steps to do it:

1 - Select the card you plan to print
2 - Choose the Card > Add Field > Related Names menu item. If that menu item is grayed out, then that field is already in the card and you should instead press the Edit button
3 - By default, the Related Names fields have labels of friend and assistant. Change one of these labels (by clicking on the up/down arrows) to spouse
4 - Type "Family" in the field, and save the card
5 - Print the card

Is this working in Leopard? I had my Christmas mailing list working beautifully in Tiger but this feature appears not to be working in Leopard so far...Something I've missed?

I wish I could help with Leopard. To be honest, I have heard that very negative comments from people who have "upgraded" from their old systems. Lots of bugs. To apple's credit, they post comments on their website that states this.

I was having the same problem as you but was able to figure it out. Do a search within your address book and make sure you don't have any entries that contain "Family" in the name. If you do, remove them. You should then be able to print envelopes with "and family".

Hi Todd

I've managed to solve this for the moment but it's a long-winded way of doing it. I used Entourage to import contact details from Address Book and then exported the data as a CSV file. I was then able to import this into a Filemaker Pro database which allows a bit more flexibility for creating labels with spouses and "& family" etc.

It's a shame Filemaker couldn't come up with a better Address Book application for Apple. I love the integration with Mail, .Mac and the synching capabilities but as an application, I find it pretty inflexible.
