converting dvd's for ipod classic

Personally I use <Message was edited by: Host>, available for both OSX and Windows) to encode for the ipod. It has a few pre-defined profiles so you don't have to mess around with all the fiddly settings if you don't want to, and even inserts chapter markers in the video file.

I doesn't handle protected dvd's though, so this post doesn't break the rules noted by Meg above.
