After the latest sotware update Safari became very unstable on both my computers. One is a Powermac G5 and the other a Powerbook G4. Safari keeps crashing and also keep asking the same question every time I launch it (if I want to change the settings or if I wish to keep the older settings). Although I answer this question the next time I launch it the same question is asked again. The application has been a disaster. I am running the latest version of Safari which was apparently installed with the latest update to OS X 10.4.11.
Is there a fix to this latest version of Safari ? In case there isn't, how can I revert back to the older version I had before that was running without any problems ? My current version of Safari is 3.0.4.

Some third party applications can interfere with Safari. You can check if you have any by going to these 2 locations and moving anything present in them onto your Desktop to deactivate them:

Please post your issue in a new topic so more people see your issue and you get advice for your problem. The same symptoms often have different causes.
When posting the new topic, give some more detailed information (how do you make it crash, what have you tried so far etc.) The more information you can give, the easier it will be for someone to figure things out.
I tried what you suggested and the problem persists. To the best of my knowledge I only have two utilities installed as Safari aids which are Concierge and Safari Stand. I have removed both but the crashing and other problems continued after their removal. I also get a message every time I launch Safari. This is the message:
"Safari has been updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items (such as passwords) as the previous version?
This change is permanent and affects all keychain items used by Safari."
"Don't Change" "Change All"
Despite the fact that I answer it by selecting the "Don't Change" button the message also appears again the next time I launch Safari.
In regards to the crash report, Safari crashes for a lot of different reasons. Below is the crash report for one of the things that is causing it to crash:

This worked for me on a pre-Palaeozoic dual-USB iBook.
Symptoms: it just didn't work. It would bounce up and down like a happy little monkey being given new candy, then fall flat below the other icons and the Mac would pull out this useful screen muttering techno-babble only the divine can understand as to what went wrong.
I did the following, with confidence, because I am a self proclaimed uber nerd:
- made backups of all my data (this prevents anything bad from happening, Murphy's law and stuff).
- deleted shortcut on dashboard
- dragged Safari from the App folder into the Trash folder (Apple says not to do this)
- searched helplessly online until I finally found the page on the Apple website that offered to re-download the patch (rumour has it that there is a way to pull out the Safari install from the update, which begs two questions: wasn't this a Mac not Windows? And, who came up with the idea to bundle the browser in an update like that? Some sick maniac, that's who... But I digress.)
- reinstall the fun and happy-times update that will bring your Mac to 10.4.11.
- wait for the happy fun stuff to take place
- reboot
- wait the four days it takes to reboot
- go into Applications and try starting Safari--for me it worked.
No more problems after that.
Your mileage may vary. I'm not sure what I could've done to cause this problem to occur. I'm told 3rd-party software working in conjunction with Safari; but the odd thing I had none installed. Dunno. Maybe it was rushed?
Move all those to your Desktop and quit then restart Safari.
If that makes no difference, in addition move all the contents of these folders to your Desktop as well:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/Contextual Menu Items/
/Library/Contextual Menu Items/
The less third party software involved, the easier it will be to see what's going on.
If it's still crashing after that, please post the new crash report that it generates.

The website is not very well worded, Safari 3.0.4 for Mac is actually the official release. It's the Windows version 3.0.4 that is still in beta. Given the number of problems it has with 3rd party software it's not surprising many people think it's beta 😉
After removing everything as you suggested things seem to be working well. I removed all the files located in the inputmanager folders. After that I reinstalled Concierge and SafariStand which are two Safari utilities I really like. This time I downloaded their latest versions that claimed to be compatible with Leopard (I am not running it but 10.4.11) and Safari 3.x. Everything seems to be working well now with the exception of the notice I mentioned in my first post. This notice appears every time I launch Safari. This is the notice:

Buttons: Don't Change Change All
Do you have any idea of this is and how to stop it from appearing every time I launch Safari ? Despite the fact that I hit the button "Don't Change" every time, the notice still appears the next time I launch Safari.
As Klaus1 says above, select the 'Change All' option the next time it appears.
For future reference, this is a security feature of the Keychain. It's designed to notice if applications that previously had access to the passwords stored within it have changed. If you know the application has changed on purpose (i.e. as part of this system update) then 'Change All' will change all the passwords to be accessible in the new version.
If an application was maliciously changed (say for example somehow you install a trojan program that called itself Safari.app as well) then the Keychain will again prompt you to confirm that this application should be granted access to your passwords. So, don't always click 'Change All' if you don't know why it's asking, but after updates you have intentionally installed this prompt will be normal.
Thanks for the above tips – it seems to have also stopped my Safari crashing.
I do however still have a problem with typing in Safari – ie in data fields, message boards... tab won't shift to the next box, backspace will send me back a page, space scrolls.... for some reason it's not recognising that I'm trying to type... This site seems okay though. It's just a bit crazy sometimes.
It was my Speed Download Enhancer that was crashing my Safari, so that is (sort of) solved, but I'm still having the typing problem on some sites/fields.
Ditto! Whatever Apple did with this last update is a killer. Safari continually crashes even on site that Iv used for years. It now even crashes when I try Apple's own site, ROFL.
Is there anyway around this? I'm resorting to using Camino or Foxfire.
