Access denied error

hello,

i'm trying to install the new version of the adobe flash player. i consistently get this error:

1008:5,-5000 Access denied error

this occurs at the "Items remaining to be installed: 2", "installing: flashplayer.xpt" mark.

i click okay on the sheet and another drops down:

"You do not have enough access privileges for this installation."

in the progress window it says: "Items remaining to be installed: 1", "installing: flashplayer.xpt"

my user account has admin privileges. i've run applejack before and after trying to install this.

i've tried installing thru another account with admin priv. but still i comes out exactly the same. this also happened before i upgraded from 10.4.9.

any advice would be most appreciated. thanks!

cheers,
sean

ps. for what it's worth, yahoo messenger updater runs into a similar error also, could there be a problem with sparkle?

Hi Sean, Did you try downloading Adobe FlashPlayer again. It is possible the download is corrupted. Also, you might want to try to clean up your keychain.
You can do this by opening Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access. Then from the menubar choose Keychain Access>Keychain FirstAid. Just click the "Repair" button then "Start"

See if that helps.....Cheers,

thank you, i thought this would be the perfect solution, yet to no avail, it still returns that error.

i tried changing the permissions via terminal, get info, and deleting camino and firefox and re-installing them. then retrying the flash installer.

didn't work.

my guess is the flash installer is trying to install into another app. some of my apps have browser capabilities. eg. rapidweaver (webkit), xtorrent, macjournal, etc. would it try installing in these or other apps?

could this be a conflict with flash cs3/8/mx?

my head hurts from banging it off the wall.

according to the adobe technote:

+If you receive the error message,"Error creating file: 1008:5, -5000 Access Denied Error", then the browser you're attempting to install to was originally installed by another registered user.+

+Flash Player installer attempts to place the "flashplayer.xpt" file inside the+
+Firefox/Mozilla bundle folder. If another user installed Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape, then that bundle folder will have incorrect permissions, denying the installation of flashplayer.xpt.+

unless i change the permissions on every app and try again, i don't know.

thanks for the great suggestion devbox. i wish it worked.

cheers,
sean

thanks for the suggestions, i still can't get this to install.

i'm looking for other browsers hidden in my applications folder, probably buried in some sub folder.

i had found opera in my flash mx2004 directory and changed the permissions for it to adobe's suggestions but i still got the same results.

if i do crack this i'll post what the solution was.

cheers,
sean

Sigh, I have this same problem. I do not yet have a solution but I can tell you what caused it.
Trying to install Flash on my wifes macmini (intel). She had tried to install before but aborted because she was using PPC install. I completed with Intel install but then flash would not show under firefox or safari.
Re-install x 2, said installed fine but would not work
Used adobe uninstall... reboot... reinstall..No luck

So I searched for Flash in finder. Found about four files still orphened in the Macromedia folder. I moved these to the trash. Two of the files required admin password to delete (should have been a clue to leave them). Now when I try to run flash install I get the Access Denied Error.

I spend alot of time trying to fix this without avail until my wife notice that flash now works ?!?!? Even though I never completed the install. Strange.

Later I found this solution on the Adobe site
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=4aa64290&sliceId=1

But now I am afraid to mess with it since it is working. Hope that solution helps.

Hello to everybody, my first post, and I got an Apple ID just to post this.
Few days ago I got this message
"1008:5;-500 Access denied error."
And I fouund few solutions for the problem, but because I know nothing about "terminal" I could not fix it that way, but I found something out on my own. it worked for me, lets hope it works for you too.

Open a new finder window and locate the internet plug-ins folder, you'll see probably two, one in "Library" and the other under "Admin" if you find both, try to leave both windows open,

Try to install Flash Player 9 and notice that there's some movement on those folders, installer will delete the older flash player to replace it with the new, but after installing the files it tells you about the error message, and when you click ok (or cancel, I forgot) it deletes the two files and closes the window.
this is what I did:
Before clicking on ok (or cancel) I moved the new files from the plug-ins folder to the desktop and clicked ok (or cancel!) sorry, after that I copied the files back into the plug-ins folder and it worked fine.

If someone understands and think he/she can explin it better, please go ahead and explain it better.
Thanks for all the help you provide to people around the world.

Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)

Force quit the installer!
It solved the problem for me.

Actually, the "move to desktop then back to Internet plug-ins" solution didn't work, in my case. After clicking the "ok" button in the error dialog box, the installer still deleted the "Flash Player.plugin" file (while keeping the "flashplayer.xpt" file, apparently). My solution was to force quit the installer application while it was displaying the dialog box. I now have Flash 9 working again (and this was just supposed to be an upgrade).
And, yes, I tried uninstalling Flash, repairing permissions, logging out of the other account on this computer, moved files around (even moved the "Flash Player.plugin" to the trash, but the installer mysteriously deleted it from there) and nothing else worked.
