Unable to delete messages in Mail

Just upgraded to Leopard, and no major issues, but it seems Mail wont let me delete my Inbox messages any more. I get this:

+The message “test” could not be moved to the mailbox “Deleted Messages — IMAP Account”+
+The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: UID COPY failed Deleted Messages: no such mailbox.+

I can move the messages into a created "Deleted Mail" mailbox under "On my Mac" and then delete them from there (which also deletes them from my ISP), but I can't delete them directly from the Inbox. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

MacPro 2x3.0 GHz Quad-Core/4GB RAM/Radeon X1900, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Frankly, IMAP is causing problems with authentication, and deleting. I am responding here to get subscribed, and hope the solution has been found.

I just upgraded to Leopard and I am having the exact same problem. I am using an AOL account on Mail and I am getting the same error message when I try to delete a message. Does anyone have a solution? If not, can you tell me what you did to create the Deleted Mail folder in order to get rid of mail?

I don't mean this in a bad way but I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one. It must be a temporary thing as I've not had this problem before and I installed Leopard the first night it came out. I am also using POP accounts in MAC MAIL. It's weird, though. It's only doing it with a few messages. I can DELETE them, then go to TRASH and they don't show up and then I go back to the INBOX and they are there again! Very strange...

I also have AOL,so the problem may be due to the interaction between Mail and AOL under Leopard. I created a new mailbox called "Deleted Mail" under the "On My Mac" category. I then drag messages from my Inbox to this new Mailbox, in which the Delete function works normally (and the messages also are deleted from my AOL mailbox). Doesn't solve the underlying problem, but at least it makes Mail useable.

I have a problem deleting mail sometimes, but in this case it's from the Drafts mailbox. I use any of the DELETE methods (Delete key, Delete button, Delete Mail in popup menu) and the message disappears, but when I go back to the Drafts mailbox, they are there again.

Just using a regular POP account, no AOL, etc. Did not have this problem until I upgraded to Leopard.

Thanks. That did it for me. Your link also revealed other problems I hadn't even encountered yet, but it's good to know the solutions beforehand.

I have the same problem with my dot mac.com account. I can not delete message. When I do that message goes gray, but does not more to the trash.
Can you help please
