Using Final Cut Pro 6.01 we are capturing and running in to some variation on the 2GB file size limit. Unfortunately, it's none of the usual suspects. Using CIFS to network mount a 2.8TB array. Copying large (10gb+) to and from the drive with the Finder is not a problem. But when we capture with final cut it stops right around the 2GB limit and complains about the disk being full.
Any idea what this might be? Is it a final cut bug?
If the drive is formatted as "FAT32" (a Windows file format scheme), you'll be limited to 2gb file sizes when connected to a Mac. Drives used for editing in FCP should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended" for best results.
I guess you didn't read completely, we can transfer files over 2GB just fine, its only during capture that its a problem. The file system is EXT3 on a GPT partition.
Yeah, we can capture locally then copy the files manually with the Finder just fine. It definitely feels like a network issue of some sort, but I think its final cut related. At first I thought it may be that for some reason it can't have open files over the network more than 2GB, but using the same OS 10.4 at home I can do the same thing using different capture software to a CENTOS 4 box with the same sort of RAID.
It's got to be a Final Cut bug. The question is whether there is a workaround. I suppose I could have the editors set the max file size to 2GB or just keep copying the files.
