Can you disable wifi - parental control

I'd like to turn off the wifi on an itouch so that my son can't surf the web.

My understanding is that there isn't any parental controls on the itouch. Is there a way to remove a physical component so that wifi doesn't work?

other ideas?

I can keep him from accessing wifi at home via the firewall, but not at school or any retail store that offers wifi.

itouch, Windows XP Pro

There is no way to remove the Wi-Fi component.

No Apple does not provide any way to do this over software.

A physical removal/disconnection of the wi-fi antenna is technically possible. Although doing this would void your warranty and would be just plain stupid if you have no technical knowledge. You could ask a 3rd party software repair place to help you with it but I highly doubt anyone at an Apple Store would do such a thing.

I agree with PianoMan that you should just get him a nano or classic if you are worried about safari. In order to use the revolutionary things specific to the touch you need wi-fi. To use such things as Safari, YouTube, and the Wi-Fi store which set the touch apart from the nano and classic are utterly useless without wi-fi.

Who knows, maybe in Feb. when the SDK's are released a parental control will be released allowing you to block/allow certain websites or block safari all together. Although there is no way to tell.

its sooo easy you can use your *parental controls* and tell little jimmy no that he cant have a ipod touch and go buy him a classic or other ipods. Because there is no parental controls for the ipod touch. I know it can be hard saying no to the little rugrats but if your wanting to exercise that parental control well then it starts with a simple no or wait until there is parental controls.

Also it would be good that you left feedback for such a feature on the ipod touch at the link below.

I am outraged to see how careless you are. We, parents of those "spoiled rugrats" have trusted Apple wouldn't release such a product that does and has everything else but parental control.

Apple uses its capacity of hard core marketing but doesn't take responsibility for the consumers it creates. Yes, we can tust our kids with a $400 gadget but we also know their brains are a little soft. The web is the world they can discover with the touch of a fingertip but it's also a place for shady minds just waiting to exploit them. I don't want my kid searching Google and ending up on a **** site.
You are right, I'm going to return that senseless gadget to the store.

As for me, I don't and I will never buy an ipod, I am mature enough for not being trapped by Apple's claws but I have a kid that still depends on such small things. And you know we all went through that fase.

The least Apple should do is disclose at the moment of purchase that there's no parental control and honestly it hadn't crossed my mind that it didn't have any.

P.S - I was previewing my message and the word referring to a site with se... content was blocked! How interesting!

Your kids are spoiled only because you spoiled them.

but I have a kid that still depends on such small things.
You have taught your children to be dependent upon a company to supply their needs?

The least Apple should do is disclose at the moment of purchase that there's no parental control
Perhaps they should also disclose it does not do laundry, make you rich or change th eoil in your car?
Why should/would a company disclose something their product does NOT do?
Wouldn't that list be pretty much endless?

You do know there are about a million internet cafes outside your house don't you? If they want to use the internet taking away an iPod Touch won't stop them. Grounding them might work (or some kind of jail) or maybe becoming Amish.

Also don't forget their friends have internet, the library has internet and on it goes. Raising them right is a good idea of course.

1) it is spelled "phase"

2) if this was such an important feature what kind of idiot would not research this issue before buying the device

or i suppose you could actually trust your children like my parents did.

Expect them to know, and if they uncover a site accidently, to go back.

If you show your kid respect, they will respect you back.*

*yes, this is limiting to your parenting style, what your kid's personality is, etc.

i just don't see what's the point of all these controls and i think i turned out fine.
My parents trusted me.

Perhaps you should research what you buy your child. Nowhere does it say that the Touch has parental controls and many other sites that review it do state that it doesn't. It's not apple's responsibility to post everything the Touch can't do, only what it can. It can't make popcorn either but I'm not outraged by it because no one says it can.

And many internet and media devices and other such things do not have parental control abilities.

I think the statement, "I am mature enough for not being trapped by Apple's claws" is quite dramatic and ridiculous. Many people buy iPods and Apple devices because they are well made products. We aren't brainwashed consumers. We buy them because they are some of the best.

How about you actually be a parent instead of blaming apple for not doing your job?
