Communication Error with Epson R2400

I have an Intel Mac running Leopard and Photoshop CS3 and despite the latest driver from Epson my printer will start to print a photo and then stop due to a communication error. I checked the cables, tried printing different photos. Sometimes it will stop near the beginning of a print, sometimes halfway through, sometimes near the end. My printer worked fine with my 4 year old laptop running Tiger and stopped a half hour later with my new machine. Anybody else have this and perhaps an answer?

Yes, yes, yes!!! And it's driving me crazy. Only diff is that I'm running Leopard on power pc. My printer used to work beautifully with Tiger. Now it won't even recognize my printer. I can't use my printer setup utility without it crashing. Same when I go the system pref. route -- as soon as I try to check supplies or do any other function, it crashes. Help !!!!!!!! I'm on deadline. I need to print. NOW. I even re-loaded my printer software, brought my printer in to cert. Epson repair joint, and researched various tricks and repair/troubleshooting manuals and websites -- to no avail.

For the record -- this isn't the only app or utility I've had problems with since I installed Leopard. Many of my apps crash...again and again. I'm very frustrated to say the least. And it cost me $129 to be this maddened, to boot.

I haven't had anything crash on me yet and the computer sees the printer. It even starts printing, but part way through printing after some ink has been laid down onto some really expensive photo paper it suddenly stops with a communication error. It's not all the time either. I have been able to get a successful print every so often. It seems as though are problems are different yet equally frustrating.

I've tried everything I can think of, and everything thaty has been suggested to me. I've been on the chat thingy, email, and phone "tech support" with epson usa and epson england -- to no avail. I've searched manuals, other tech support sites (including this one, Aperture, Adobe, Epson, and a few obscure ones).

Have Epson and Apple both just abandoned us?

I know some of you, like me, have deadlines -- PAST & FUTURE ! -- and spent hard-earned $$$ on Leopard, only to have endless problems ever since. Is the only solution to dump it all and go back to Tiger? I had no problems with that operating system. Still seeking advice, suggestions, potions, notions, anything, everything.

I have trouble with my Epson 2200 getting it to feed velvet art paper. I have trouble with CS3 with silly things like getting the crop dimensions to take. I also have trouble with the Printer Utility as the software crashes upon launch. Thus I cannot switch out my Matt Black cartridge because I must delete and re-add the Epson Printer once I put in the Photo Black and to do that I need the Printer Utility which will not launch.

Fix me please.

I have the same problem. R1800 and only since Leopard. I waited for the recent update to see if it was on Apples side, but I am pretty convinced it is the driver.

I just spent 30 minutes with Epson America Tech Support with a CSR named Mike. He was very nice and we went through all the normal troubleshooting procedures. Re-install driver, check connections, etc. From Espon, it is recommended to use only USB and make sure it is 2.0 cable.

I can re-create my problem. If I work in virtually any other program, I get a failed print job. If I do not touch the computer, then I have about 75% success.

Please, everyone call Epson and complain, Mike agreed it is the best thing to do at this point. The problem will be escalated to the top tier techies and they will find a solution (we hope)

Report back here if you hear anything, I will do the same.

I am trying everything that James at Epson is suggesting. Today's test was to create a new user acct, delete the entire Epson folder out of the system, reinstall and try printing again.

Communication Error

Tomorrow, test two

(after I complete my tests I will contact James again and ask "Now what" I also intend to write a letter to Epson CEO, I always get fast response when I take that route, I am not sure what to expect, but if my R1800 Printer is not compatible with a G5 Tower under Leopard, I want a new printer that is at a HUGE discount from Epson.)

Just finished a 30 minute tech support call with an upper division rep at Epson, we seem to have fixed the problem, I was very skeptical, but so far all is well. This is exactly what we did:

Go to you user account and navigate to:
Library->Preferences. Select everything that starts with "com.apple.print" (I had nine files) Copy these files to a safe place, they contain customization to you r print settings such as paper handling and quality settings.

Now delete the ones from the Library->Preferences folder.

Go to your main hard drive, not your user account, and select "Library->Printers"

Delete "Epson"

Empty Trash

Reboot

Install the latest driver from Epson for your printer.

Open the "Print & Fax" System Preference

While holding down the "control" key, click in the area where the printers are listed (left side bar). You will be presented with a pop-up menu that says: "rest printing system". Select it and your existing printers will disappear.

Add your printer back to the "Printers" list.

Close the "Print & Fax" window

Add your saved "com.apple.print" files back to the User->Library->Preferences folder

Cross your fingers.

James at Epson asked that I not use this number, which I posted earlier for future requests.
