Audio cd disappears after confirming import

Hi,

When importing audio cds into the library, I often get a strange error.
When iTunes asks if I want to import the current cd and I confirm, the cd disappears from my devices list and nothing happens.

When I reload the cd, it is imported normally.

Does anyone has the same problem and is there a cause/solution?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 17", Mac OS X (10.5.1), iTunes 7.5

Indeed not.

I did find a geeky workaround: the problem is that when iTunes gets the track names from CDDB, it wants to change the volume mount point for the CD from "Audio CD" to the album name. Apparently the unmount goes fine, but the mount falls on the floor.

If you open Disk Utility in that situation, you'll see that it shows an unmounted Audio CD. Right click (Control-click if you only have one button), and select the option to mount the volume. It mounts with the iTunes-approved title, and iTunes immediately starts importing the CD.

So if you've got a stack of CDs to import, just leave Disk Utility open to deal with the ones that get "stuck."

I just (1 week) got a brand spanking new 24" iMac, 3.06 GHz, 4GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS. I'm having a problem adding content from music CD's to iTunes, and wasn't sure if this was a software issue or a hardware defect.

I tried the work-around you posted above, and it did eliminate the need to eject and reinsert, with the disc importing right into iTunes.

Would be nice if Apple actually addressed this bug so the program worked as intended, but until then I'll relegate iTunes and Disk Utility to their own screen in Spaces.

Much thanks.

i'm running the latest tiger with an 03'imac/superdrive/itunes 8.

it happens to me too but not to often. i just upgraded to itunes 8, 3 days ago, and it hasn't happened yet.

i notice the desk icon goes missing (or never appeared?). if i click the lower right import button on itunes, nothing happens. i reload the disk, and like the other's, viola.

Hi,

I had same issue. I simple moved the com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist from my Library/Preferences folder onto the desktop (just in case it made no diff) and tried it. Everything worked as expected from there on. I set the CD import to Apple Lossless, and then I set to import and eject CD when done. Ripping CDs is super fast now.

Hope that helps.

I have the same problem and I use an external Plextor. So it s not a drive problem.
I start with a "fresh" itunes and imported hundred cd's (apple lossless) without problem .
After I changed with aiff but I don't think the probleme came from that....
So, its better now since I choosed "show CD" in pref and I select songs then import with right click...

Had a brand new Macbook 13" 2GHz for 2 days now and have started importing my music collection only to be hampered by this problem.

Have tried most fixes suggested but the only one that works is having Disk Utility open whilst importing and manually mounting the CD.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.5 and iTunes 8.0.1 and have not touched anything since turning my Mac on for the very first time! I have also reported this issue via the feedback option.

Genius is giving me problem too.. As i live in Brazil, we can´t get genius to work here.
