Dec 6, 2007 7:47 AM in response to SuePyby varsityhero,I am also getting the same error when I am trying to purchase music.
I already made a post on this and you can read it here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1278610&tstart=0
It seems as we are not the only ones having this issue, so don't feel alone. -
Dec 6, 2007 2:04 PM in response to SuePyby SuePy,I have contacted Apple and will post when they reply!! -
Dec 6, 2007 7:19 PM in response to SuePyby Deucey,This is about send me over the edge...has anyone heard from Apple as to what their problem is. Just seems we are all confirming that we are having the same problem and no one fix works for all. I have tried the repairing itunes, turning off the firewall, changing the 1-click pref, etc. and nothing is working for me. -
Dec 6, 2007 8:38 PM in response to SuePyby nolagreen,More of same. I was able to purchase music 6 days ago but now get the 5002 error message. Downloaded/installed Itunes 7.5 and it did not help. -
Dec 7, 2007 9:49 AM in response to nolagreenby clarenceparks,i too am having the same problem. i have tried all of the suggested fixes that i could find to no avail. i hope someone finds a fix soon. -
Dec 7, 2007 7:54 PM in response to nolagreenby vansouza,iTunes staff told me it was fixed, but clearly is not. I was going to reinstall iTunes... glad I found your post... save me the time.. -
Dec 8, 2007 5:05 PM in response to SuePyby Paul Manis, googled the 5002 error- recommendation was to go to itunes prefs, store tab, and change buy from "1-click" to "shopping cart" option. worked on the windows version; haven't tried on the macs yet. -
Dec 9, 2007 12:00 AM in response to Paul Manisby jochrisbryan,I have been trying on and off for two days to make a purchase, i at first got the message it was a connectivity reason, so reinstalled iunes. Now still this morning getting the 5002 message, the other thread listed has lots of people having the same issue.
I am on cart only the 1 click was already off.
has anyybody sent the links to these two discussions to apple? -
Dec 9, 2007 8:20 AM in response to Paul Manisby Herodotus,Thank you, Paul Manis, for the information that one can shop with a 'cart', of which I was unaware.
Anyway : tried that -- choosing to shop by cart -- but without success in relation to error 5002.
I notice that Paul uses a Mac ; Perhaps my using a Windows PC makes a difference. -
Dec 9, 2007 10:14 AM in response to Herodotusby hitcher,This problem seems to be related to certain ablums. While I always get this error on one specific album I was able to buy some other albums. Shame. -
Dec 9, 2007 10:27 AM in response to Herodotusby hitcher, the trick with the shopping cart worked for me (windows) but you have to use the "buy now" button at the bottom of the window. If you use the buy button next to your item in the shopping cart yu will get the same error. -
Dec 9, 2007 11:35 AM in response to hitcherby Herodotus,To ensure I hadn't done something like that (failure to use the 'buy now' button at the bottom-right of the screen), I just went through the procedure again, being sure to use it : same error for me, I'm afraid. oimoi !
There must be some difference between hitcher's system or his iTunes set-up and mine that enables him but blocks me. -

Dec 9, 2007 9:58 PM in response to SuePyby pvogt,I don't know what changed but I'm also getting the 5002 error.
Interestingly this thread is called error 5002 but support search for error 5002 results in zero.
I have the latest of Leopard and iTunes and a MacPro and it suddenly started with this 2 days ago.
You'ld think with so many people complaining someone moderating would take notice and actually DO SOMETHING. Put out a troubleshooting doc with the fix or better yet just fix it.
Tomorrow I call Apple Care.
