I Know this may not help but I too have had the dreaded error 5002. Tried everything I can for about a week now but no luck. Changed to shopping cart but still up **** creek with no paddle. If anyone reaches a solution then please post it on this board. You will be helping a lot of frustrated people. I"ve written an email to iTunes support but they haven't got back to me yet. You would think that they would want to fix this problem quickly before they lost too much business. I'm running an iMac with OS X (10.5.1) but I don't think this problem is limited to any one system. I think it's just a matter of bad luck.

I emailed iTunes Store support and got the help I needed either that or they fixed their software because the error is gone and I can purchase songs again.

My suggestion is to email Apple support.

I think I have found a solution people. Instead of using my wife's account like we have always done, I have created a new account in i tunes using my own apple id. It worked and we can now download music once more. It still doesn't explain why the wife's account is no good but if you just create a new account with a new apple id then you should get back on track again. I emailed apple support 4 days ago and I still haven't got any response. They obviously don't care or just don't know a solution. Good luck people.

It won't even let me do that. When I click on "Edit Payment Information", a pop-up says, "An Error Occurred. The iTunes Store could not process your request. Please try again later."

I took the advice from posting below and went into Itunes. Hit Account and entered security code next to my credit card. It worked!!! I also emailed itunes support. If I hear back with info, I will let you know. Good luck everyone.

So, SuePy, has Apple replied ? I hope you're not holding your breath. None of the suggestions posted here has addressed the problem. Don't see why I should open another account.

Go to itunes home page, click on your account name in the top right corner, re-sign in and go to view your account details. Then look down on the screen you should see an option to "enable itunes account" I clicked that and it fixed the issue for me.

Tried Joereds32's suggestion : no change.

Meanwhile, four-and-half days after my original message to Apple, I received the following 48-hour response :

"I'm sorry you ran into [error 5002] ... caused by a temporary issue with the iTunes Store that should be resolved now. Please check the iTunes Store again. All features should be working well.

"[A load of blurb about how it might have been the fault of my connexion &c.]

"If you are still running into any difficulty please be patient as Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

"Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

We will be in contact with you as soon as the issue is resolved ... "

They must have taken a course in dissembling from Britain's New Labour ; high time they (1) got their story straight and (2) made their software work before installing it.

I had the problem for the past 2 weeks, I solved it.
First, my Itunes used to be in French.
I reinstalled it but this time in english, then to realise it was still not working. My Itunes was now in English, but not my Itunes Store.
So, I changed it ( Clicked on the small Canada button in the bottom of the page). Now both my itunes and my itunes store were in english. So I tried to buy a song, and it worked.
