AZERTY keyboard / English FCP shortcut keys question

Hi,
One of lmy computers has an english OSX , with english fcp, on an AZERTY keyboard.
I therefore have VERY impractical keyboard shortcuts, for example cmdZ is"close window", cmdQ is "select all", etc ....
that seems to be my standard layout for shortcut keys.
How can i change this without having to autoassign eaxh key individually in the keyboard llayout. Should i be changing something in the prefernce settings of the OSX or is there some standard layout option i can't find in FCP?
The other computers have everything in french and the shortcuts are fine.

thanks in advance.

Does this keyboard work with other applications correctly?

I know you can change the keyboard language in the system preferences of the OS, but not sure if you did and that it works well on other apps just not FCP.

Maybe you can enlighten us?

Honestly... the placement of the key shouldn't be the issue it's the ascii code (guessing) that is sent... so if Q is 0011101 then the keyboard sends that code from where ever Q is mapped in the OS settings.

Odd.

thanks for your responses. I'll take a closer at the install cd and see if can manually install the french presets. when i installed on this computer, the english version automatically installed itself, probably because
the OSX is set in english. I would have liked to keep it that way because there are so much more ressources outthere for the program in the english language (and it makes it easier to communicate with you guys!).

As far as mapping the keys in FCP, what exactly do you mean?

Look up keyboard layout or keyboard mapping in the manual. I think it's under the WINDOW menu... anyway - you can map each key and modifier to what ever you want it to be.

Then, you can save that layout and move it from computer to computer... like, if you set up FCP keyboard to do what you want and like and then have to move to another computer to work on THEIR fcp you can take your kb layout with you.

Nice feature.

Something to try (suggested earlier, but this is step by step):

1. Open System Preferences.

2. Click on International

3. Click on Input Menu

4. Locate "French" in the Name column and click the "On" check box to the left.

5. Enable "Show input menu in menu bar" to quickly open the International System Preference from the Finder menu bar later.

You may already be set to French. So, it may work to set this to "U.S." while you're using FCP and then set it back for other applications.
