Motion stuck playing in timeline

I have a ton of layers but almost all of them are turned off. I have 4 particle emitters on of photoshop files on currently. I have a moving background going. When I play motion it will just lock up playing the thing over and over again. My computer is not locked up, it will run other programs fine but motion will not stop playing in the background. At this very moment its doing it....I don't want to force quite because I haven't saved in a few mins. After like 20 mins of playing with it hitting the space bar a few times clicking on things etc. it will come back to earth. But its irratating..... How could I fix? Its on my powermac duel 2.5 with 2.5 of ram. Is it a ram issue?

I've had it go for 10 seconds or so, but never more tha a minute. Might be time to trash pref's.

It also does this in soundtrack pro (sorry I just remembered and thought I would add that in). However in soundtrack pro the computer locks up (but whatever is in soundtrack will play over and over again) so I'm not sure if its the same problem. Which prefs should I delete? Will it effect anything I'll notice aside from the problem (in other words: will it hurt anything)? Thanks

Search delete prefs in the FCP forum for detailed instructions, then replace FCP with motion, and no it won't hurt anything if done properly. All it does is throw out your saved method(s) of working: i.e., window layout...
