Thanks for the reply. we are using a DVI to HDMI lead which gives us greater resolution than I think VGA would. setting in mac mini is 1280 by 720 and this Briavia screen is 1366 by 768 hence my confusion as to why the mac mini screen is bigger than the TV hence the cut off at top and bottom. Sony didnt seem to know an answer either.

Well, according to your TV's manual, at least the one I found on-line, it says specifically to use the VGA input for "PC" connections. It also states that 1360 x 768 will be an available resolution. This is close to the panel's native resolution and higher than 1280 x 720.

Likely the HDMI input on your Sony is forcing a scaler to be active and overscanning the image. Unless the TV has settings to defeat this, and from reading the manual I don't think it does, your best hope is the VGA connection to the TV.

Hi Brian,

I'm having the same trouble as you. It's a shame as I think HDMI is the only way of getting digital inputs to sony bravias (very dumb if you ask me given these are 'colour like no other' digital televisions!

The only thing I can offer you is that if you turn off 'overscan' in your Mac Mini's displays control panel, it'll shrink the screen so all of it's visible, but it will mean you've got black borders round the edge. I wound up making a few applescripts so you can switch quickly between overscan and no overscan if, say, you want to watch a DVD then want to browse the web.

I've gone back to a VGA cable at the moment, which seems to be the only way you can get a Sony Bravia to give you pixel-to-pixel matched picture. Sadly the contrast is nothing like as good as on the DVI connection. Wish I'd noticed this before buying the telly...
