When I plug in my iPod, a window pops up saying it needs ti install driver software into my iPod, and asks for the disk that came with my iPod,and when i put that in, it doesnt recignize it....
Hello there!
I guess is the driver for Windows, not for your iPod. Windows SHOULD recognize your iPod automatically as a mass storage device, specially XP and Vista. No need for drivers to install. To sync your iPod you need iTunes, do you have iTunes in your PC and what flavor of Windows are you using?
If Windows isn't connecting with your iPod, you need to change the USB port you are attaching your iPod to. Make sure you have the latest USB drivers installed (again, for Windows).
If you have Windows 98 or Millenium you're out of luck. 98 can't connec with an iPod due to lack of drivers, and Millenium can't even install iTunes, but there are alternatives out there to sync your iPod without itunes.
Hope this helps.
Just install iTunes. Windows MUST and WILL identify your iPod as a mass storage device and install the drivers automatically. You don't need special drivers to do that or any disc that came with the iPod. I have a 5.5 Gen iPod and it didn't include any disc in the box. You don't need it.
have got exactly the same prob installed latest version of itunes onto my comp and when i connect my ipod(5th gen 30gb video) it says needs driver software, so i insert the disk but does not work!so unable to sync ipod! very annoying, need help!! lost wit out my tunes!!!!
I had exactly the same problem so i posted a thread on the same page. Anyway, I just resolved it so thought i'd mention it if it would be any use to anyone else. Have a look at my discussion titled "Can't connect ipod to laptop? Keep getting message to install driver?" Hope this helps.
