Q: G3 help

ok this is probably really simple for you to answer but I have my first mac and I cant figure out how to unlock a disabled folder I need to do this so I can change my tcp/ip settings to get on the internet!! My g3 is set on the modem and I cant change it to ethernet someone help me please!!!

G3 B/W, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

    I don't know what you are talking about.

    To use Ethernet, open:

    Apple Menu > Control Panels > TCP/IP ... and select the Connect via: "Ethernet" option from the list.

    Once Ethernet is selected:
    a) If you have a Router, select DHCP, otherwise
    b) select Manually and enter all the "magic numbers" your ISP has provided.

    If you cannot select Ethernet as a choice, this is generally not caused by a locked folder, but by your hardware being:
    a) not present
    b) driver not available
    c) not connected to a "live" Ethernet port, such as a port on a Router or switch, or cable not plugged in or damaged or or wrong type of cable.
