Strange external drive behavior?

for some time now I have noticed funny behavior when ejecting my WD external harddrive, I ejects alright but it takes alot longer than it used to. I get the wheel of fortune for about a half a minute and then it ejects. Where it used to do it within seconds, can anyone help with this issue? Thanks.

15" MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.9), 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo

Hello Rafcio2,

The usual suspects first....

Click once on the hard rive icon, then hold down the  key (cmd) then tap i

 + i

Capacity XX
Available XX
Used XX

Repeat this on external too please, then post back with your values of XX.

Thank You, the external is divided into two partitions the mac os x one has the following values
capacity 92.8 GB
available 21.47 GB
used 71.32GB

the PC partition has the following values
capacity 48.8 GB
available 29.44 GB
used 19.36 GB

the hard drive itself has the following attributes
capacity 111.47 GB
available 74.13 GB
used 37.44 GB

Hi,

So its not a space issue then - Good.

Have a look in Activity Monitor when the drive is trying to eject. What is happening in there I wonder?

Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.

try a firewire re-set. power off mac, remove power cable. power off firewire drives and remove firewire cables. let sit for a few minutes.
