Hello! Sorry you're having problems but have you done the first steps of booting from the install disc, repairing the drive, then rebooting and repairing permissions. When you do this have any additional devices unhooked such as usb/firewire devices. Also if you could be a little more specific about when it freezes and what you are doing when it freezes. Your profile says you are using OS9 but in the body you say 10.4? Tom

Well, with a question THAT specific... do you expect an answer? Can you tell a little bit more? What are you doing when the finder freezes. What does "Freeze" actually mean? Beachball? Does the cursor still move? Do other applications work?

Are you copying files when the freeze happens? And may it be, that finder is getting back to normal, when the copy is done? Do you have the problem since update to 10.4.11 or did you encounter it before? SINCE WHNE do you have the problem?

So please: More infomation!

One of the designers I work with here has a G5 Power Mac, running 10.4.11 (I don't know how much RAM is installed) and it has started to exhibit very similar symptoms today. He restarted it this morning and when the desktop image appears, the finder freezes. No icons on the desktop, no top menu save for the blue 'spotlight' tool and only that immediate gray area behind it and there's no dock. And of course there's the dreaded beachball. You can move the cursor/beachball but that's it.

- Have tried starting from a system disk with no success
- Have tried resetting the PRAM with no success
- Have tried restarting into single-user mode
- Cannot locate Tiger DVD (as I said, this is an office environment and I have no idea where the Tiger disks are), can only locate a set of Panther DVDs and I'm not sure I want to do any disk permissions from a Panther disk onto a computer that's running Tiger.
