Hey guys

My Mac has just developed an annoying problem. Lines running across the screen. I can get them to go away if I press the case together at each side of the laptop but as soon as I let go it returns... Its like the case has opened up somehow and is causing this problem.

Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the screen if I buy a spare one from ebay?

Here's 2 pictures of the laptop problem.

    Hi,

I've had the same problem for about 6-8 months. Except it started as one line and has gradually increased to about the same point yours is. And like yours, pressing on both sides of the casing made them go away (it also added some). From what I've learned, it is an LCD disconnection. It's odd though, because when you hold your mouse cursor in an area long enough it changes that spot in the line black/grey. Has anyone had success fixing this problem?

17" TiBook of my dad's is doing the same thing. Best description of it is the kind of 'interference' or old-tv jagged wavy lines you might expect to want to hit the tv to 'fix'.

Moving the laptop screen into a specific angle of 'open' can make it go away but is very small area of normal state, and finicky to try and obtain. Seems like some form of backlight power connection moves slightly when the screen moves. Is this a common flaw out there, or is there a simple homemade, after-warrantee fix?

The same thing began happening to my powerbook about 5 months ago, and now one line has turned into about 25. If anyone finds out a way to fix this please share!

I had a white horizontal line problem and fixed it taking off the display and insulating the wires where they come out of the display on the left. There were places where the insulation was worn off.

Hello, I report the exact same problem. I have an Intel Mac Book Pro (15-inch) running OS X 10.4.11 with all updates installed. I get the annoying black lines almost in any application and ocassionally those green pixels floating around.

It is not always the same pixels which go green. It seems completely random. I do not only get this behaviour while the OS is running but also while booting my computer (I got rEFIt running and I see it on its screen).

I also report that sometimes my screen goes completely black and the laptop freezes completely obliging me to do a cold reboot.

Just ran an Apple Hardware test from the original DVD and got no errors.

I'm having the exact same problem with my PowerBook G4. Anyone found a solution?

What are the chances of apple helping out with this if your applecare plan has run out? Will I need to buy a new one?
