This problem started happening after I moved to a new house and got a new internet connection. In the menu bar, it shows the empty diamond for the airport. When I click on it, it says "Airport: Not Configured". So I click on Open Network Preferences, and choose my wireless network. Once I hit apply, the empty diamond doesn't change. It doesn't show the signal strength. Also, I have to open Network Preferences every time I start up my laptop. Can anybody help me out with these problems?
Jake:
Interesting problem. That same problem has occurred to me, since I changed internet providers and installed their set-up software. Currently researching it, but it seems that I am unable to turn on the Airport for some reason.
I had this problem for the last couple days, exactly as you described. It seems the problem is in the configuration settings supplied by the network setup software (in my case, Comcast). So open your network preferences, and turn your airport off. Switch your location to "Automatic" (mine was at "Comcast"). Make sure airport is the top-priority port. Now turn the airport back on and connect to your desired network. This fixed everything for me.
Well this didn't work for me. Automatic is the only location I have setup. I can use Safari, do System Updates and read mail. When I reboot I have to re-enter system preferences.
