Remote admin Access, monitoring etc...

Hi, I was wondering how to go about setting up some sort of remote access where this computer (new iMac) would be the administrative computer and the other one (a G4) could be accessed via the iMac.

On the G4, there are 2 accounts: Admin, and Guest (with parental control). I'd like so that my iMac can physically monitor what's going on on the Guest User account (openning/closing prgms, send messages etc.), without them knowing it's being monitored. How do I go about doing this? It would also be nice to be able to log in/out of accounts on the G4 from this iMac, main thing though is being able to monitor it like specified.
Thanks.

Oh, I should also mention that my G4 is connected Via Ethernet through my Airport Extreme Base Station, which is connected to my cable/phone modem. My iMac runs wirelessly through the Airport.

Power Mac G4, Dual 867MHz, Combo Drive, Mirror Doors, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 512MB RAM, GeForce MX4 32MB

Hmmm, 1st part should be easy enough, you just need to enable Personal File Sharing on the G4, then you should be able to log in from the iMac as any user there, (assuming the both get the 1st 3 number in the IP from the Router). I'd use Sharepoints to set up any users/priviledges you wish on the G4, it could even be a 4th user with access to everything...

On the 2nd point, there are several ways, Apple sells Apple Remote Desktop, then there's Timbuktu...

Both which do all the above plus viewing the other screen, etc.

Many mor options besides those 2 also.

Ok, How do I go about setting up File sharing then. I mean, I know I go to the "Sharing" pane in System preferences, but what else? How about as far as connecting to server kinds of things? What do I need to type/wher in order to connect.

So to my understanding, I'd need to actually purchase software to manage/monitor another person's account while they are using it?

Also, this is probably a simple thing but, how can I transfer my music from that G4 to this iMac? What would I need to do?

In Finder>Go Menu>Connect to Servers, then you could type in afp://ip.of.g4.mac, or select the Browse Button. You may also have a Network icon on the left of fonder windows if you set that in Finder>Prefs>Sidbar.

There are free ones, none as easy/foolproof as Timbuktu though. If your new one has Leopard you may have Remote Viewing built in, but the Leopard boaed would be best for that question.

If it's music bought from Apple, you'll need to do a bunch of stuff, if it's your own Music then once connected you can just copy the folder(s) over to the iMac.

So, in order to connect to the computer I want, (the G4) I can just type in afp://ip.g4.mac is what I need to type after the iP?) and it will connect? At that point, I should see my computer's icon and I can access anything within it? For this, I need to enable File sharing correct, (in the Sys prefs) only on the G4?

I do have Leopard, I posted on that board as well, I will check that now.

Yes, but to be clear, it's not really "afp://ip.g4.mac", but something like "afp://10.0.1.2", or "afp://192.168.1.4", or whatever the G4 shows in Network>TCP/IP tab for it's IP. It's also possible to use it's name like "afp://EricksG4" or whatever it's called, but numbers are more certain to work.

You will be presented with a login box, asking Registered or Guest. Guest will only get you a drop Box, but if you choose Registered, erase the default name that comes up, put in the G4's Admin User's name, and G4's Admin Password, you'll have the same rights as being on the G4.

Ok, so here's a follow up question I spose, The computer in the other room (the G4) is on:

There are 2 hard drives in that computer, 1 of the hard drives is Dedicated as mine, the other is for 2 other users (which is set to Master). Now, on this hard drive, there are 2 accounts like I said, Guest and Admin. Am I still able to connect to my Hard Drive (the one that is set to slave and is not mounted for the user "Guest" on the current running hard drive).

Also, am I able to access anything within the Guest's Account? Or is that where this link above would come in?
