Installation of OS 9.2.1

I want to upgrade to OS 9.2.1, but I cannot start up from the OS 9.2.1 CD. I held down the C key while restarting with CD inserted. I never got the CD background but came back to my regular desktop. I turned off all non-Apple extensions. I opened the Startup Disk in the control panel and the CD icon was dimmed.

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.

Is your OS 9.2.1 Install CD a model-specific one, or a retail one? The retail ones have a white label with a large gold 9. You should be using a retail disk; the model-specific ones will rarely work on a different model.

If it does have a white label, is it a full install CD? ...or a upgrade-only one? There were a few of the latter eleased, and they are not bootable.

The part number for the North American English full-install retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD is 691-3334-A (the part number can be found below the text block on the left-hand side of the white label).
