Upgrading from os 9.1 to 9.2.1

I am having difficulty upgrading my IMac DV, slot loading, powerpc750 (G3) to 9.2.1.

I am trying to update so I can run OSX

Each time I run the installer, it errors a few minutes in saying that os 9.2.1 cannot be installed over the local version of the os.
It asks me to do a complete install or select a different destination disk.

The firmware is up to date,
I think I need to update the hard disk but Im not sure how to go about that.

Can anyone help me?

Hi, Stephen -

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.

The 'localized version' message is usually returned when the language version of the OS 9 update does not match the language version of the installed OS. They must match, or the update's installer won't run.

You can download any of the available language versions for the OS 9.2.1 download update from this Apple KBase article -
Article #120030 - Mac OS 9.2.1 - Download and Info

Note that there are two English versions - North American English, and International English. They are not interchangeable.
