imovie and quicktime

I admit I am a new mac owner after over a decade of pc. I am completely frustrated trying to get my quicktime movie on my iweb. i have followed every video of the process and imovie tutorials. I have changed this thing into every format possible. I finally got the thing into imovie (because it tells me I have to because iweb will not accept my quicktime the way it is) and everytime I select the frames and drag them into the "drag media here to create new project" imovie shuts down...closes....hairballs. I have been trying to upload this movie for 2 weeks and I am losing hope in becoming a proficient mac user.
please help!

Let's start with the basics. Referring to your source file:
1) What kind of file container (AVI, MOV, MPG, etc.) is your source data in?
2) What video codec (M-JPEG, MPEG-4, H.264, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, etc.) was used to create the video content?
3) What audio codec (DVI ADPCM, AAC, MPEG-1 layer 3, AC3, etc.) was used to create the audio content?
4) Does the file container containe any extraneous data tracks (text, "Tween", alt audio/video, etc.)?
One of my college proffessors always used to say that a problm was the difference between where you are and where you want to be. By knowing what you are starting with we should be able to figure out how to get to where you want to be.
