Appearance for MU

Hello. Whenever I set a different Appearance for each user, it shows that appearance for EVERY user. Can't everyone have a different one? Also, in the "Limited User Accounts", whenever I log in to check everything is ok, the Apple Menu has stuff like: Recent Applications and the other Recent stuff. Also it has "Favorites", which I told not to put there. I even erased these folders from the Owners Account. Why does it come back?

I got a G4 cube with OS 904 a couple of months ago. I just got it back a couple of weeks ago from Apple's repair center due to the proximity switch problem. Now I'm trying to set it up with MU and find the following:
1. Desktop patterns and certain other prefs don't bind to the user who is setting them (as has been discussed at length here).
2. My desktop printer and my little "user" icon on the desktop won't stay put; I want them at the top edge and every time I log in they jump over to the right edge above the trash can. As I mount multiple partitions and external devices, this is pretty annoying. I want the disks to be along the right edge unencombered by other stuff that thinks it belogs where I don't want it.
3. Desktop prefs such as view>view options>always snap to grid do no survive logout and login.

In my case I'm trying to set up separate email accounts so the messages of the three users remain private and don't commingle. I have not been successful yet using MU because prefs are apparently temporary and don't survive from one user to the next.

I'm also upset by the claims that MM 1.3 hosed the workings of those users who had set things up under 1.1. I'm curious why there is no provision for us to obtain MM 1.1 in order to get things working as claimed by those who have operated under both MMs.

I, too am very unhappy with the multiple user prefs not staying set. I have two an iMac A running 9.0.4 and it allows me to have different appearance settings for each user. The brand new Imac I just bought for my grandmaother only uses the appearnce setings for the main user. To many this is minor. To my grandmother it not. She wants her computer to work like mine and i cant make that happen. Please let me know when this may be fixed. Thanks.

I haven't tested it myself but try to install MU 1.1 in MacOS 9.1. Might still work and will give you the functiuality you want. If you don't have the MacOS 9.0 CD (where MU 1.1 is on) you can download the MU 1.1 package here: http://members.nbci.com/robo_x

I try to install MU 1.1 in MacOS 9.1 myself when I get home. I hope this workaround still works. =)

Success... the MU 1.1 workaround still works in MacOS 9.1. I just installed it and I can change appearance settings for each user and they are not forgot after logging out. Of course all the fixes to Multiple Users 1.3.1 included in MacOS 9.1 are lost but I want working preferences than some small fixes to MU which broke one of the important features and that is an own user defined work environment.

MacOS 9.1 seems to be stable and all but for Multiple Users users it was a worthless update as the most annoying bug which came in MU 1.3 update is still not fixed in MacOS 9.1.

Hey everyone! I just downloaded Mac OS 9.1 and the Appearance for Multiple Users seems to work. I am not 100% sure because I installed Multiple Users 1.1 before I installed Mac OS 9.1. I think that Mac OS 9.1 DOES fix the problem, but I am not sure. But then again, it upgraded the whole system. Try it out! Here is the link if you don't want to go through the web site looking for it:

Thank you for your co-operation.

I just set up a new dual-450 G4 at work, and was looking forward to using the multiple users, since my cohort on the night shift leaves crap scattered all over the desktop. Well, not on the desktop, but the appearance thing is bugging the heck out of me. I've upgraded to 9.1, and to no avail. My strawberrry iMac at home works with it, my wife and I both have different appearances. I'm not sure which version of the manager I have, but the resolution preferences cannot be changed.
