Why can't I see my Canon MP510 printer in my System Preferences?
I've spent hours trying to find my issue in these discussions. I bought a Canon Pixma MP510 with my Macbook and it was easy to install and I began printing immediately with no problems.
Recently, I kept getting a strange message that one of my ink cartridges wasn't recognized (it didn't look like the ink was depleted, but everyone told me I should replace it), and I was unable to print...nothing was coming out on the printer, so I replaced the black ink tank (the one that was not lit up and giving me the problem). Figuring that would solve the issue.
NOT SO. When I try to print now with the new cartridge, nothing happened. Although once I did get a sheet of paper that "went through the motions". A friend suggested I delete my printer (I had two for some reason) and reinstall. I did that. Now I keep getting a message that my computer is "searching for printer" like my printer wasn't even there!! Then I think maybe it's the driver. So I go to the Canon website to look for an updated driver, thinking maybe that's it.
I found the updated driver and went through the install instructions (it's not rocket science, for God's sake) and still no printer listed in my Print and Fax preferences. It can't be found. I have never been so frustrated in my life. Why can't printing EVER be easy? I seem to always have problems with printers and drivers and this kind of thing. There's not even anything that addresses this problem in my printer's online manual. It seems that once you get an issue as simplistic as a cartridge replacement, everything else screws up. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing a step????
PLEASE PLEASE HELP before it winds up outside in the freezing rain. Thank you so much!!!
