Giving feedback to Apple -- does it work

Hi all, I am curious as to the Apple feedback option...and hoped the guys in the USA could offer some words of comfort given that you have had the iPhone a little longer than in the UK.

We all agree there are things the iPhone probably should do but doesn't and we all have our own wish list which I am sure we have fedback to those lovely people at Apple. Do they taken any notice? (please, no scarcasam here, just really answers).

Did the recent release to 1.1.2 add anything that our chums in the USA wanted but was missing for an early release?

There has been lots of chat on here about extra features and it wold be great to know that at least some of them are on the way.

I am also bemused as to Apples consistent silence. I know they/we should not speculate, but other businesses at least give reassuring words of encouragement to their user base that issues are being addressed.

I am personally looking forward to February when the SDK comes out and others can produce stunning add-ons to the iPhone which will further enhance it.

To tackle the iPhone feedback question: It is very hard to be able to tell what they do and do not take into account. I am sure that at least some of the feedback is looked at and considered but to what degree I for one do not know. I would hope it isn't there as a mirage to let us get our steam out, but when sent it doesn't get received. Again I think at least some of it gets noticed.

The 1.1.2 update was significant in securing a TIFF exploitation that was overlooked before. The international keyboard helped some people here but I don't think it was significant. It also brought back the ability to add ones own ringtones to the iPhone which is a plus.

As far as extra features Apple is secretive on this just like they are on when an update will come out. Until released no ones knows what it will entail, except the announcement of the iTunes store on iPhones. The SDK is going to solve a lot of things that are missing, I honestly believe it will be a significant step in iPhone development. http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/thirdpartyapps.php

As to the OP -- do they read the feedback? Probably.

Do they respond to the feedback? Almost never.

Will they incorporate your requests - probably not.

Apple works on a model in which they decide what they want included and what they do not. That is consistent across the board for Macs, iPods, and iPhones. If they decide they want to add copy and paste, they will add it. If they do not want to add it, they will not, no matter how many pieces of feedback they get from users through the feedback link.

Obviously, they will look at those features that are asked consistently over and over again. But Apple is more likely to listen to their own programers and company employees than they are users. If all of the Apple employees in Cupertino start complaining that they don't have cut and paste, then you might see cut and paste eventually added to the iPhone.

As to the specific feature - it has been requested via feedback through this forum since June 29, 2007 in the USA. So far, there have been several software updates and none of them include copy and paste. Take that for what it is worth.

I do love my iPhone. I've had a lot of fun with it.
But, Apple may not care, and I guess that will have to be okay, but if they don't my the iPhone better, I will get rid of it for something that has all the things I want. I know someone that just bought a phone from ATT and it has GSP, video, SMS with pictures, pre-text for SMS. I hope more than anything Apple will deliver on this, but I think there are many people out there that bought this knowing it was a first generation phone, and now the baseline for what a phone should be. But, I don't doubt everyone will abandon the iPhone for one that is better.
