lost serial number for Final cut pro

lost serial number for Final cut pro

I have recently bought an I mac desk top and want to transfer the FCP Program frommy pro book to I MAC Desk top but have lost the serial number to activate, what can I do to activate the program on my IMAC without serial number. thanks

pro book and imac desk top, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

You might try contacting Apple if you registered it before...

Okay - here's a thought - put the macbook in Target mode, hook it up to the imac via FW, then migrate the application - this should pull the serial number over. Then, if need be, you can re-install and it'll use the serial already installed...

Then get your purchase receipt and call Apple. The purchase will be confirmed and you'll be sent the number.

When did you buy it from Apple?

Im in the same boat..cept I keep LOTS of stuff, and I cant find my box from mid 2000 at all, im tearin up the house.

sigh

1) I paid via cashiers check from my bank, cuz the reseller wouldnt take a 14,000 check.
2) The outlet went out of business in 2001.

Ive paid and used every update since then, now installing 6..im screwed.

Isnt this the reason we register ONLINE when we install this?

It is installed in /Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut Studio System ID (it's sad that I can recall that from memory). Just backup that file somewhere safe and copy it to the same location after reinstalling.

I'd always thought the ethernet address of the machine was saved inside the system ID as part of the startup check to prevent exactly that kind of thing.

the poster (to whom Steve is replying) is asserting (in a totally different thread!) that his hardware is the same, and that he has simply clean installed the new OS and as he's somehow lost his serial number he can't re-serialise the app ... as the physical hardware ID has not changed then the previous System ID file should be just fine

Hi! I have a similar problem. I upgraded FCP a few months ago. Today, I migrated all the info to a new computer I just bought, and FCP asks me for a serial number. I entered it, but it now says that the serial number is the upgrade one, that I should enter the original, which I don´t have. Any ideas of what I can do?

I tried that thread (Library/Application Support/ProApps---), ProApps is not there, nothing...

To be honest the original poster should be hammering this out with Apple not asking for workarounds on the forums, I'm sure such talk goes against the terms of use.

If it is, it doesn't stop the app from opening on another machine with the same ID file.

There is always a small chance the OP is trying to circumvent licensing, but it appears to my sixth sense that he isn't. Seems legit to me. Still, I could be wrong; my sixth sense is not infallible.
