Safari's RSS Reader Function not working

I have been using Safari as my RSS reader since I went Mac 3 years ago. It has worked wonderfully without exception. Then yesterday I was trying to pull up the pages and the following error message came up indicating that they could not be populated. I have posted messages from two seperate pages, although the Mach error code is the same. The following are the messages:

Safari can’t open the page “feeds:News&feeds.feedburner.com/scotusblog/pFXs?format=xml&firstread.msnbc.msn .com/rss.aspx&www.mittromney.com/index.jsp?do=rss&www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032552/d evice/rss/rss.xml&www.thejournalnet.com/rss.xml&uuid:CFE7D4D2-A39D-49E3-BEB6-4A2 FDAB62EAE”. The error was: “Operation could not be completed. (Mach error 268451843 - (ipc/rcv) timed out)” (NSMachErrorDomain:268451843) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

Can anyone help me know what is going on and what I need to do in order to view my feeds.

I managed to fix my RSS feeds in Safari by running a maintenance program to fix permissions and run the maintenance scripts, deleting the "com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist" file and re-starting my machine. It might work for you too.

Scroll down this forum and look at "Safari is so slow" a user name Klaus1 posted a response that is excellent. I ran disc utility "repair permissions" and it even fixed my printer.

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed all the steps and I am still getting the same error message and Safari says that it cannot open the page I am requesting. It worked fine less than 24 hours ago, HELP!!

I used a program called YASU that is shareware but came recommended because it worked under Leopard. I dumped the RSSplist because a similar process had fixed a constant Flash player problem I encountered.

Still nothing, can anyone tell me why this has happened? I have changed nothing on the system. It worked fine on Saturday and has not worked since.

I appreciate the suggestions given thus far but nothing has solved the problem. Any other tips, hints or fixes would be appreciated as well as an explanation as to why it has happened.

the only other time I have been this frustrated with a computer was when the computer was a PC. The past three years have been great and I hope this is just a hiccup and not a sign of things to come.

I'm having the same problem. I tried solutions that were offered on other threads (logging in as a new user and using those preferences, etc.) but with no luck. The best I've got is temporary fixes but then it dies again quickly.

Anyone have any suggestions for us?

Hi,

Another thing you can try is this:

- Quit Safari
- Open up a Terminal window (via Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app)
- Type <pre>dscacheutil -flushcache</pre> and then press the Return key
- Restart Safari

What that does is flush the local DNS cache on your machine. DNS is how computers convert human-readable names (i.e. www.apple.com) into IP addresses (17.112.152.32) that computer networks use to resolve machine locations.

No guarantees this will work, but it's worth a shot.

I had the same problem this morning. I did all the fixes suggested in this post and the post "safari running so slow" and nothing worked. Finally I shut down my computer and unplugged my modem. I let the modem reset for about 10 minutes then restarted computer. Safari seems to be OK now. You might give that a try.

Alright, I have tried all of these and nothing seems to remedy the situation. Does anyone kow of anything else that might work. I am now using firefox but enjoy safari much better. Please help, I want safari back.

Thank you for the help that each of you attempted to give. However without Apple addressing the problem it appears that I will be a Firefox user from this pint on. I did not want to have to admit defeat but found Google Reader and although it is not exactly what I want it is better then Safari screwing up all the time. Oh well, I guess so long as Safari is the only Apple creation that I am experiencing problems with I can live with it.
