HP PSC 1610 - driving me nuts

Using the HP PSC 1610 that worked flawlessly with my previous iBook. Now I am using a new MacBook with Leapard.

I have downloaded the drivers 5 times from the HP site. It keeps hanging up on the install. Now everytime I restart my Mac, I get this message saying "service not created yet". I googled it and found these directions which are worthless:

I migrated it myself. Copied files to my external hard drive and moved everything one by one. Everyone told me the firewire migration assistant is not recommended so I did not go that route.

It is connected via USB through a Kensigton USB hub. Should I connect it directly for the installation?

My iBook was using the latest settings for Tiger, I believe.

There is no network involved.

The printer is listed as having printer drivers from hp included in Leopard.

Mac OS X 10.5: Included printer drivers
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306684

HP say not to download and install the drivers from the web site.

Try opening Print & Fax in System Preferences.
Unlock the lock.
option click on the minus sign and choose to reset the printing system.
Click on the + sign to add a printer and select default from the toolbar.
If the printer shows up in the window, select it.
Watch the Print Using area and see if the driver populates to the right.
Click Add.
