Medium Error 0x0c

I got the same error message yesterday. I tried reinstalling toast 8 and that didn't work. Some disks burn and some don't. Sometimes if I burn them at a slower rate they work too. It has only just started happening. It was working fine for ages. Could it have something to do with software updates. I recently installed a whole heap and have spent the last week sorting out problems from them...

I have had this issue as well. I took my MPB to the Apple store and they replaced the drive. When the tech brought it out from the back, he did a test burn and guess what: same hardware sense issue! He said that's funny, since they were watching monster truck dvd's on it when the store was slow. lol I explained it is a burning issue not a playback issue and he logged it in case more work needs to be done ( since the warranty expired a few days later).

Using Boot Camp and Windows XP, I get "Drive Not Ready" errors when burning discs. That rules out OS X, Toast, etc. Definitely a hardware issue.

I get the same error in Toast. When I try burning from a burn folder I get error 0x8002006E. This all started about a month ago. I have been using Maxell DVD-R disks for a very long time and had no errors. Suddenly, midway through a spindle, the errors began. With Maxell about 50% of the disks burn fine and the other 50% go a short way into the disk and then fail. With Memorex disks they have all failed and seem to fail as the drive begins the burn. I don't remember if a automatic system update came through at the same time the problem started but I am VERY frustrated. These same disks work fine on a friends PC so this seems to be very Mac related. I have tried changing the burn speed but it has not helped.

I, too, started getting the same error, changed from using Toast to Burn (which by the way is a great free burning app) and still the same medium write errors. After looking around a little bit on the forums I decided to Reset the MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC) and, touch wood, that seems to have done the trick - I hope this helps.
