Naked Iphone or Not?

Hi,

Being an Iphone owner has its ups and downs, it is a fantastic futuristic gadget that all other companies seem to be light years away from bringing anything out that resembles it (ok yes the camera could be better and 3G could be included blah blah blah). However the interface, usability, design quality and build (just to name a few....) are outstanding.... it's a joy to use.

I also think that the Edge network all be it slightly slow is good, I’ve had no problems obtaining emails or surfing the net on the move and it's FREE, now I’d much rather have unlimited usage in the UK using the Edge Network than having to pay for 3G (of course if O2 were to offer free 3G when the Iphone II eventually comes out, then all would be forgiven....but I can't see that happening).

Now enough of rambling on... the subject: Naked Iphone or Not?!

I have an Incase rubber protective case and a screen protector on my phone but I am beginning to think that I’m over dressing my Iphone and taking away the beautiful design and magnificent touch screen ability, as no matter what one says the touch screen works ten times better without a screen protector......

And yes without a case the iphone is a bit slippery and can slide about and end up crashing to the floor but it looks dam better without a case....

So Dear Iphone Users are there many of you about that don't use screen protectors and no cases and haven't had many problems with scratches on the front or rear of the unit or with dropping their phones. I usually just carry the phone around in my pocket but am worried about the lack of screen protection but then again I’ve read reviews and seen YouTube videos that suggest that the Iphone screen is pretty reliable….

I am one of those people who stood in line and paid $600 for my iphone. From day one I tried to find a case that worked for me and ended up with the iSkin Revo. I agree the iPhone looks really cool...but on the other hand I really don't want to "waste" $600 when I could protect it from being dropped for a mere $30-$50. I bought the iPhone because of the functionality and want to keep it for a while.

I use a screen protector but no case. I got the phone in 10 November and have no scratches, and I find the screen protector looks invisible (can something look invisible?) and works really well.

I tried loads of cases in an Apple store and hated the bulk and lumpy shapes.

Not to mention, the iPhone fits my hand well, and with no case, it doesn't ruin the line of my expensive Italian suits!

For my experience in my 5 iPods from 1st generation to iPhone, to use them naked is a suicide. They are so heavy and slippery that sooner or later they bite the dust. A scratsh in an iPod screen is ugly but in an iPhone is a crime. The Incase rubber case is perfect for me, it protects the iPhone but it respects the original design 100%.

I have a Monaco case on my phone, it's very protective. I've dropped the phone once, and except for a small ding near the headphone jack the phone came out fine. I do choose to remove the phone from the case to charge it, but that's because I use the dock and the case doesn't fit. There's a plastic screen protector built into the phone, and it doesn't impede the touch screen in any way. A flap covers that for even more safety. It comes with a clip, that you can easily add, or leave off and it doesn't affect the look of the case. So might think this case overkill, but for me after investing $499+ for this phone I'm extremely happy with it.

I believe someone here described the case as the Fort Knox of iPhone cases. It is, total protection for those who might need it.

Man, those Vaja case are beautiful....BUT THEY SURE ARE PRICEY!!! WOW!!!

I got this one in the AT&T shop and it's done the job nicely. It also has a minimalist approach while still protecting the basic features, and it very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it:

Yeah..... think if i'd seen that 1st i would of bought it (with the holster) but in the UK we don't get so many options....

There is Gear4 iVak available in UK whereas it is not in States. It looks quite nice but not sure how bulky it is.

After using Case-Mate mentioned above for few months, I have come to really dislike the case. Aside from the fact that the leather is not holding up very well, I just don't like the feel and the look of leather cases. I prefer the smoother texture of metal/plastic feel over leather (and most definitely over a silicone/rubber) for a case.

I have just gone to SwitchEasy Capsule for iPhone http://www.switcheasy.com/iPhone.htm

I, too, use the Otterbox Defender case (I actually went a little crazy and bought the black and the black/yellow case). I bought the first ones that came out and was unhappy, the silicone was just not good, it was very loose. Also, the phone was very difficult to take out of the holster. I called to get info to return them and they offered to send me replacements when the revised ones were in (and I didn't even have to return the first two). I got my replacements and am very happy with them. It's sturdier than the original ones and the silicone stays put! Plus it's a lot easier to take out of the holster now. I haven't taken it off since putting it on.
Now I'm just waiting on the iPhone Armor case also from Otterbox http://www.otterbox.com/products/ipod_cases/iphone-case-armor/. That case is fully waterproof unlike the defender case. The Armor case also come in the black and black/yellow. I ordered the black and confirmed they will begin shipping around Friday.
Otterbox is the best out there for full on protection for this expensive phone. I'm not concerened that it takes away from the design of the phone. What I know for sure is that my phone will look as new as the day I bought it for a long time to come using this case.
