pop and imap stopped and master respawning too rapidly

I was testing the authentication settings on my mail server (10.3.9) via server admin (Version 10.4.7 (157.8)) and restarted the mail service and now pop and imap don't start and I get the re-spawning message in the watchdog log.

Did a config file get corrupted - since I upgraded to the newer version of server admin?

A while ago I was reseting a password for a user via workgroup manager and had accidently clicked on the "Cyrus User" user (right next to the one I was going for) and entered the new password, but I though that I didn't save the changes before realizing my mistake. If revert didn't take could this have caused the problem (first restart since then). If so what would be the right password (default?)

over a year ago had made a number of manual config (main.cf only) changes and every thing was working fine until today after I tweaked a few settings using the updated server admin tool.
