Windows does not recognize iPhone as a digital camera

Hi Everyone:

So here is my problem. My PC does not recognize my iPhone as a digital camera, so I am having trouble figuring out how to transfer photos from the camera roll to PC. If I run the Windows Scanner and Camera utility while iPhone is connected, the utility does not find any digital cameras.

Here are the relevant details:

Windows XP Professional
I have reinstalled iTunes several times
All other syncing works flawlessly. iTunes recognizes my phone right away, songs, pictures, contacts, and calendar all sync smoothly.
I can not see iPhone in 'My Computer'

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

When you ran the camera wizard did you have any photos on the phone that you took with the phone's camera? As it will be recognized only if you have new photos on it

Also is your iPhone updated to the latest software version?
Of course the problem might as well be the USB port as already suggested(make sure you are not using an external USB hub).

So just for reference, the problem has been solved. I don't know what changed, but tonight when I connected my phone, Windows tried to run the "found new hardware wizard." I can't explain why. I hadn't changed any settings since last night when I connected and reconnected my phone at least a dozen times. The only thing I did between then and now was shut down.

Anyhow, when the Wizard started, I remembered a tip I had found here several months ago when I was having a similar problem with my iPod. I directed Windows to search for drivers in C:\WINDOWS\inf. The wizard found whatever it needed in that directory and now my PC recognizes my iPhone as a camera.

Can't explain what changed, but go figure. Thank you Windows for being as inscrutable as ever.
