How is iTunes compared to Napster?

Up to this point, I've been the only iPod user in the house (others have had different brands of MP3 player). However, now we're all going to be using iPods, so we're considering switching to iTunes rather than Napster. How do the two compare? My only complaint with Napster has been that the files are NOT compatible with iTunes, so I have to put the songs on a CD before I can put them on my iPod. This can get ridiculously expensive!

Does iTunes have the same selection of music available for purchase as Napster?

Also, I've been told that there's no monthly subscription fee for iTunes, just a pay by song - is this correct?

Thanks for any input/help. 🙂

Just to add to the mix, last Christmas, my girl thought she was doing good buying a $25.00 Napster card for supposed "three months access" but it only allowed music to be downloaded to the hard drive. You have to have a credit card and then pay 99cents per song to move them to the MP3 player. I was so ****** off. Don't believe Napster "deals", just use the cards where you pay the 99cents per song. It works but it's no where near as good as I-Tunes.
