How to unlock a CD

How to unlock a CD

When I try to copy a file from a previously written CD I am prevented and Get Info won't let me "unlock" it (or the CD). The lock icon at the bottom is greyed out. I've turned on File Sharing in system Extensions and set Share on Get Info but to no avail. What can I do?

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

If you have already burned a CD, you cannot write to it again. That means that you cannot modify any of the files that are on there, or add new ones. If you are trying to copy that file to your computer, and you are having an issue, than I'm not sure what your problem could be. Could you give a more detailed description of what you are doing?

I found a solution. The finder allows the files on the CD to be compressed and the resulting .zip file is put onto the desktop. When it is opened, there are the files which can then be put away on the hard drive (or copied to other media). Weird, but it works.

No, I'm not trying to write again (it's full and not appendable anyway), I'm just trying to copy the files on the CD onto my desktop or some other area in my hard drive. When I drag a file off the CD the cursor turns into a circle with a diagonal line through it like a no entry sign and when I "let go" the file springs back to the CD.
