Chooser Window TOO SMALL - can't see icons!

Hello. On a PowerMac G4 system running OS 9.2, a problem just began to happen: When the user attempts to open the Chooser, a TINY window appears (only the 'close' button is visible) and the window cannot be resized. There is no way to access the Chooser items/select printer/etc... How can I fix this problem: i.e. resize the Chooser window to the correct size? I can MOVE the window by dragging it, but I cannot RESIZE the window by placing the mouse on the window's corners. I can also CLOSE the window by clicking the close button.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmmm, that is a strange one. The Chooser window cannot be resized.

Try this:
Go into the system folder>preferences folder & trash the following preferences:
finder
Apple Menu Options Prefs

Rebuild your desktop. Use Techtool Lite or Trash*Desktop (TD may delete Finder comments )to rebuild your desktop w/extensions off. Does a better job than manually & you avoid all the finger gymnatics. You just have to hold down the shift key to shut off extensions.
Restart to turn the extensions back on again & empty the trash.

If you want to rebuild manually, see KB article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10182 Rebuilding Desktop File and Icon Recovery.

You may need to go back into the Control Panel>Apple Menu Options & reset any settings that you may have had.

Good luck

Hi, R G -

Chooser does not have a preferences file of its own. Instead, it uses the LaserWriter 8 extension as if it were a prefs file, writing changes to it frequently. It can happen that LaserWriter 8 becomes damaged as a result.

I would suggest trying replacing the LaserWriter 8 extension, and possibly Chooser itself.

OS 9.2.2 uses the same versions of both of those as does OS 9.2.1.

You can use this utility TomeViewer to extract (expand) any files you want from an Installation Tome on an OS Install CD or download disk image, without running the installer.

Good luck -
