Apple Wireless Keyboard won't pair

My Apple wireless keyboard won't pair with my MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.1. Until a few hours ago, it's been working fine. It's an older keyboard (white). It also won't pair any longer with an iBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.1. I've tried most of the suggestions on the various discussion threads without success.

One unique finding I hope that will help someone find a solution: If I use Bluetooth asst and select keyboard, it will not find it. If however, I use 'any device' the keyboard is seen and named 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' but the type is listed as 'unknown'. This tells me that the keyboard is sending and the Mac is receiving, but something is missing in the identification. I've tried continuing with the Any Device option but the pairing is never successful. (I've tried all the various passkey options.)

Hopefully Apple will fix this soon!

Hi ProfT-

Which suggestions have you tried?

Have you tried fresh, name-brand alkaline batteries?

Luck-

Hi, I think I can help-I have had a huge headache trying to air a second Mac, and finally found an Apple help page, no less, in which it said to turn on the computer to which the keyboard is to be paired, THEN turn on the keyboard and watch for the sequence of lights and pauses that indicate that it is in discoverable mode.

At that point if you have Bluetooth devices set up assistant open, you will see the magic word "keyboard" in the box and you take it from there.
Are these directions in the booklet that came with the keyboard? NO. Have I spent roughly 3 hours trying to figure this out, YES. Get a grip Apple.....

My iMac is less than a year old. Keyboard was working fine and then suddenly dies. I suspect dead batteries and switch them out. My keyboard is discovered but won't pair. I type the numbers, press enter, and then, timeout. I switched the batteries out again. Just bought, Energizer batteries. The light turns steady green for a few seconds and then goes out. Nothing works. I can't seem to find a solution and of course I can't find the warranty info. This should be a simple fix really but I can't find any "literature" on it online. Why is that? Can nobody offer a solution to this? Considering the frequency and longevity of occurrence, surely Apple must be able to tell us something...

Any update on this. I have the same issue with two different white wireless keyboards on Leopard. New batteries, won't pair under BT setup assistant unless I select any device, but then it shows the type as unknown and doesn't actually pair it. Apple wireless Mouse works fine. Really frustrating.

What's the point of the apple discussion forums if no one from apple actually responds?

Past 2-3 weeks, my apple bluetooth KB has been disconnecting repeatedly and now doesn't seem to pair with my mac mini. Tried the suggested firmware update but that did not improve the situation and have had to switch to a wired keyboard for the time being.

I thought about performing an upgrade to Leopard, but from what I have read that does not help.
