DV error

I have a large movie file in mp4 format, and I used MPEG Streamclip to convert it to DV. But when I tried to import it into iMovie HD, it gave me this error:

The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/ethanwright/Shared/A&Mtu2007 - 2nd Half.dv” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -39

I've seen other parsing errors but not this one. Please help.

Also, does it usually take 40-50 minutes to import a 10 sec MOV into iMovie?

Hi EthanCW - welcome to the forum!
Have you tried simply dragging the mp4 file directly into the iMovie Clips Pane? That format is compatible with iMovie, although it will be converted during the import.

Of course it shouldn't take that long to import 10 seconds of video - but what format is it? .MOV is not a format - open it in QT, and go Window>Show Movie Inspector, and you will see what format it was recorded in.
Error -39 says 'no additional data in the format' - so perhaps your conversion did not work at all.

I did try to import the mp4 file, but when complete it had only audio and no picture. Does it matter that the file is widescreen? When I looked at the inspector for the files that I am able to import this is what I get.

H.264 Decoder, 1280 x 720, Millions
AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz

Don't know what format that is.
