I have Pages 08 (3.0.1). I have tried to make a custom document size, specifically a custom size envelope. After I create it in page setup>manage custom sizes, the custom size choice I created is grayed out in the menu. Does anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing something somewhere? I am trying to create a mail merge with Christmas card envelopes whose size requires a custom setting. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes that can work, but one thing is that I want to write them out to Mr and Mrs which doesn't work though address book and the other is that no matter what custom page size I create, it is grayed out, which means custom page is completely unusable(so why would it even be a choice?) so there must be a bug or I as doing something wrong,
I have created a separate group for Christmas Cards and added people from my other lists. If it needs to say Mr & Mrs, I just add that to the first name field. Once that is done, I just leave it like that for next year.
The only thing is that I would have to remove the spouses name from the spouse field, because when it prints it adds the spouses name on the end. Also wouldn't it mess up the alphabetical order of my contacts to add Mr and Mrs to the first name field? This still doesn't solve the problem of why the custom sizes are grayed out it Pages!
I have smart groups set up for my Christmas list etc by using the notes area for codes that let the different contacts show up in the different smart groups, are you saying that I can edit the info in the list and it will not affect the original contact info?
You will have to enter all new info for your Xmas Card list. If you copy or drag existing contacts, then it will change their info in the original group.
When I was trying to do this earlier, it appeared to me that original info was not changing. Maybe it wasn't keeping up with how fast I am or something.
I will leave feedback myself, because this could be improved upon. At least make it so the info from one group does not change what is in the other. At least the option to designate differently.
I don't suppose it would bring you much comfort to know that I just tried creating a custom paper size and it works fine, in Pages where I created it using Inspector, and in other Apps where it is now available for page and print setup.
If the custom paper size is visible but not available, perhaps it's a context issue. What were you doing when you determined your paper size definition to be unavailable? I wonder if the OS thinks the custom paper size is out of the capability range of the printer you have selected.
I was having the exact same problem with creating custom paper sizes. When I changed the printer in that same dialog box, all of the paper sizes (including my custom ones) became available (no longer grayed). Try changing your printer to any others you may have.
I had this problem until I went to Page Setup and selected "Any Printer" from the drop down menu. All my greyed-out custom Pages then became available.
