How to use Rating of songs?

I've had my 160gb classic for close to 1 month now fortunately with no problems. But, I've been told by others that if you rate your songs with the star system on the iPod, you can somehow play all 3 star or all 4 star songs, for example.

Anyone know if that is true? If so, how do you do that? I couldn't find it in the iPod menu selections.

Thanks so much for everyone's help.

For rating songs on yur ipod, press the select button in the middle of the scrolling wheel when a song is playing two times. You will notice a screen with 5 dots. Use the scroll wheel to change the ratings, once the rating is updated press the Select button again.
After connecting to iTunes, the songs will sync with the iTunes library.

For playing all 3 star and 4 star songs, I am not aware of any method which can be done on the ipod directly , however you can use the smart playlists option in the iTunes library to create playlists of your Top rated songs. And then sync with the ipod.Hope this helps a little !!

Thanks Amresh. I knew how to rate songs using the select/wheel. I just heard about being able to play only "x star ratings" on your iPod depending on what you like. All 3, all 4, all 5, etc. Maybe it is like you said, rate them, sync with iTunes, then sort in iTunes and copy to a new playlist.

Anyone else know how to do what I'm describing? Thanks.

As previously stated, you can't do this directly on the iPod.

If you have the iPod set to auto sync with iTunes, then any ratings you make on the iPod will automatically transfer to your iTunes library next time you sync.

Then you make playlist(s) in iTunes containing all your rated songs and transfer these to the iPod.

Smart playlists are probably the best way to do this.

Interestingly, if you create smart playlists of unrated, 1 star, 2 star, etc. (making sure you have at least one track at each rating) then these playlists will update on the iPod on the fly... Change the rating of a song as it is playing and it moves out of one list and into another. A bug/feature means that an empty smart playlist won't get created on the iPod even though it could be populated later on as an effect of user actions. E.g setting the rating. Shame, it would be much nicer to just hide playlists with no members. Having seen this however I assume that other smart playlists such as "Recently played" or "Recently Skipped" should also update on the fly.

+(Off to think of ingenious things to do with smart playlists)+
