The SDK is a separate software package and tools that allow a developer to create software for the iPhone. There is nothing that needs to be done with your iPhone. The SDK will allow for the development of 3rd party applications that can be used on your existing iPhone.

The term SDK is not specific to Apple. Almost all manufacturers of computers and phone and other electronic devices have SDK's for development of applications for existing operating system software. As an example, there is a SDK for Java, and Microsoft, etc.

The release of the iPhone SDK is scheduled for February 2008 which means that is when the software is released to the developers for use. The time to develop will determine when it will be available to the end-user as yourself.

The other issue is how will Apple allow for the new products to be approved for addition to your iPhone. Is there going to be a certification process and release through Apple? That information, to the best of my knowledge, has not been released as of this date.

Hope this helps.
