Can't connect to WiFi at home (DLink Access Point)

Only had my iPhone for a few days now. I am trying to connect to my wifi network at home but it is just not working. I have a DLink wireless access point and have no problems connecting to it with my laptop. iPhone sees the network allows me to enter site password, but then just switches back to Edge. It doesn't seem that DHCP is setting the correct network settings on the iPhone. Any advice for troubleshooting? I see no errors, nothing to go on.

wahiggins3,

First, make sure you have the latest firmware installed for your D-Link. Many routers, and D-Link is not alone in this, don't always provide information via DHCP using the accepted standards for DHCP. Any updates that mention digital devices or gaming consoles usually address that issue.

Second, what security are you using on the router? Are you using MAC or hardware address filtering?

Personally when entering my password for the wireless network at my in-laws I had to slow down and remember that the letter that will be typed will pop up if you hold your finger on the screen. If it is incorrect you can slide your finger to the correct one, and then lift it off the screen.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

Well it turns out I have a somewhat older DLink Access Point. I have the DWL-2000AP_revB. I already had the most updated firmware on it. So I put some of the settings back to the default and I also temporarily removed WEP security. Again, I was able to connect to the network with my iPhone but it didn't want to stay connected to wifi. I had to go into settings and select the network to connect. I then switch over browse a little and then after a few minutes it goes back to the E(edge) icon. Is it possible that I need a more updated access point/router? Again, my lappy is connecting just fine.

wahiggins3,

I would recommend trying your iPhone at a different location with a different router. You can find WiFi hotspots with the Map application on the iPhone.

Go to the maps, enter in WiFi and then your zip code.

It is not an all inclusive list, but I have found WiFi locations that way even in towns of under 10,000 people.

If it works fine in other locations, it probably isn't your iPhone.

Hope this helps,

After a bit more testing it seems that if I go into settings and select>connect to my home wifi network, it does work. If I put the iPhone down for a few minutes and it goes into it's sleep mode. When I come back into the interface it has lost the wifi connection and the only way to get it back is to manually reconnect in the setting screen. It seems that the iPhone doesn't want to auto-connect to my network. Other wifi networks always seem to popup and will connect fine.
