Can you lighten videos in Quicktime?

I have some videos that, on my camera look fine, but when uploaded to the computer, are very dark. Is there any way I can lighten them up using Quicktime Pro?

Yes. QuickTime export "Movie to QuickTime Movie" allows you to select "filters".
Set the playhead to a representative frame of your video. Export and click on the Video button to set the compression settings and the audio button for choosing audio codecs. Click on the Filters button in the export dialog and use the Brightness and Contrast or HSL Balance filter. Adjust the sliders and use the small preview image to get things the way you want.
Compressing (exporting) already compressed files will degrade the video quality a bit and your newer file may be a bit larger in file size. Try to match the codecs and rates found in the source at export.
