Metafile conversion

I notice that when I open Windows files with images, such as in MS Word and Power Point, MAC OS "filters" the images to Metafile format. Then if the Word or PP file is opened in a MS OS, the images cannot be displayed. How can I stop MAC OS from changing image file formats ? I want them to stay as they are, such as .jpg for example.

I haven't seen this. I share Word and Powerpoint files with Windows users on an almost daily basis and have never had any problem seeing images in the documents. Maybe you could give more detail about what is happening, like where the document was created, how it was transferred, etc.

OK, I was wrong in the first place. Here's my problem. When I copy an image from a PDF, for example, and paste into any MS Office program, Word, PPT or Excel, the image file format is .TIFF. When the MS Office file is opened on a MS PC, this message comes up where the image is suppose to be: "QuickTime and a TIFF (LZW) decompressor are need to see this picture"
So, my question is how can a change so that images copied and pasted are in JPG format?

Don't copy and paste.

Save the image as a JPG and insert it into your Office document.

Thanks for the idea. Can't figure out how to get just the image I want to be saved off PDF with Preview program. I do not have Adobe. Preview seems to only let me export the whole page as JPG, not just the image (pitcure) on the page I what.
Is there a way with Preview that I can save just a section of the document as JPG ?

Do you have any graphic manipulation software on your Mac.

Paste into that application and then save as JPG.

The Open Source GIMP http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ is certainly one option.
